My Approach

My name is Lauren Niederkorn, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I obtained my BA in psychology at Lawrence University, a little liberal arts school in Appleton, Wisconsin, and moved to the “big city” to pursue my Masters in Social Work at the University of Illinois, Chicago. I’ve been working in the clinical field for over 15 years and have been so lucky to be able to work with numerous brave, wise people, while they addressed anxiety disorders, mood disorders, psychotic disorders, stage of life issues, chronic illness, identity concerns, aging, loss, and big life transitions.

My approach is an eclectic mix of humanistic and cognitive therapeutic approaches. I also like to use ACT, IFS, and systems modalties. This eclecticism ensures a flexibility that allows us to explore not just underlying causes of your current distress, but also coping skills and solutions. Above all else I am person-centered in my approach, which means our therapeutic relationship will be collaborative. You are the expert of your story and experience. My job is to listen, empower, teach, coach, validate, and yes, sometimes even challenge, while we work together on your goals.
